Bridport Open Book
a celebration of reading and writing
www.bridport-open-book.com
Bridport Arts Centre is excited to announce the latest development in their work with literature – the Open Book Festival: Bridport’s celebration of reading and writing.
Literature has always been a part of Bridport Arts Centre’s identity, starting with the Bridport Prize established in 1973. More recently the Bridport Prize Live, which developed into the Bridport Literary Festival, has brought high profile authors to Bridport with some fantastic talks and events.
As an organisation committed to developing participation in the arts across the community, the Arts Centre will now build on the success of the Bridport Literary Festival and Bridport Prize to offer new opportunities and engage with new audiences.
Alongside the existing format of talks, some of the key elements of Bridport Open Book will include:
· a wider programme for children, young people and families, supported by partnerships with the local library service and with schools and community groups
· more opportunities to participate, with a wider range of practical workshops and ways to get involved
· initiatives to encouraging reading such as the Bridport Big Read
· integrating more closely with the Bridport Prize and other key events such as the From Page to Screen film festival.
This year's Bridport Prize Poetry Judge, Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy will be one of the exciting writers at this year's event.
The Open Book Festival will take place from 19 – 26 November culminating with this year’s Bridport Prize celebration.
Arts Centre Director Polly Gifford said,
We’re very excited about developing Open Book and in expanding our offer for existing and new audiences. There has been such a growth in literature related events in and around Bridport over the past few years and we are proud to have been at the forefront of that. We welcome all such initiatives that contribute to the cultural life of the town.
The Arts Centre is really keen to hear from anyone who would like to get involved or who has any ideas or suggestions for the festival. You can get in touch by email at openbook@bridport-arts.com or drop your ideas into the Arts Centre.
You can follow the development of the festival here on the website.
