SmallCaroline Conran by Robin MillsBridport Arts Centre is delighted that renown food writer Caroline Conran will be giving the latest in its series of fundraising talks during the Bridport Food Festival.
Caroline’s new book ‘Sud de France: the food and cooking of Languedoc’ has already won awards and rave reviews, not least for the quality of the writing.

Caroline Conran’s relishable account of Languedoc cuisine is that extreme rarity, a cookbook that you can sit down and read.”
This comes from Caroline’s deep affection for a region not as well known as some.
“Languedoc is not fancy France, it is in your face France but I love it, and when I think of the South of France I think, not of Provence but of that vast region of vine-covered plains, seashore and mountains that lies between the Pyrenees and the Rhone. Like Spain, this part of France, until now, has not been known for its food, but it has a very deep and enduring food culture, rich with the influences of Moors, Catalans and Italians. The self-reliant people of the region love strong flavours, they enjoy some of the world’s best seafood and they are great hunters and foragers for wild food.
To my amazement very little has been written in the English language about the cooking and superb ingredients of the Romans’ favourite part of France, and I will try to capture for you some of the wild and authentic flavours of the Sud de France.”
