Bridport based Nicole is a illustrator, artist, wall muralist and professional doodler. She’s inspired by people, relationships and her surroundings, creating quirky tongue in cheek, designs in a variety of different styles.
If you look closely at the mural in the Arts Centre foyer you will see some of Bridport’s favorite acts as well as some familiar scenes.
Exhibitions Assistant, Megan Dunford who commissioned the work said: “I asked Nicole to make a site specific piece for the Art Centre foyer. I discovered her work on Facebook and found the mix of figure drawing and graffiti like style really interesting. I thought Nicole would have an interesting take on how people interact with the Arts Centre through dance, music and theatre…I wasn’t wrong.”
Nicole has competed in the world-renowned art battle Secret Walls; appeared as a performance muralist and is a regular performer at Glastonbury festival. She also runs the popular children’s art class Little Inkers in The Chapel in the Garden.
Nicole said “I have been a Bridport resident for the past 20 years- leaving for parts, but always returning, and now I’m here to stay. I’m drawn to the place, it has a uniqueness to it that no other place I’ve lived can replicate. So I wanted to recreate in my mural the buzz of Bridport, especially in the Summertime where people of all ages spill out from the BAC onto the streets and Buckydoo Square in a fiesta of dance, music, and laughter. If you look closely at the mural you may recognise some familiar faces and places, and perhaps you will be inspired to join in with us too. Thanks to Megan Dunford and all at the Arts Centre for the opportunity to create such a fun and exciting piece.”
The mural will be on display until 9 May 2015. If you want to take a piece of the excitement home there’s a range of Nicole’s wonderful illustrated cards for sale at the box office.
