‘Another Way of Life’
Photographs by George Wright
George Wright is a freelance photographer whose work has appeared in newspapers and magazines including the Observer, Telegraph and Independent and has taken him all over the world, from Armenia to Zimbabwe and from Djibouti to Irian Jaya. His photographs are in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, Dorset County Hospital and Dorset County Council.
His books include English Topiary Gardens, Vanishing Dorset and Dorset Man with the poet James Crowden.
He has exhibited in the Chicago Botanic Gardens, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and in 2000 his exhibition ‘A Way of Life’ documenting rural life in West Dorset was shown at the Bridport Arts Centre’s Allsop Gallery.
Since then he has turned his attention further afield and the photographs in this exhibition are the result of personal journeys that have taken place over the intervening years, many of which were made by motorbike, including several trips to Eastern Europe as well as travelling the length of South America and riding to Iran and back.
To complement the exhibition, we are presenting an artist’s talk on Thursday 23rd January at 7.30pm in the Marlow Theatre when George will reflect on his long and varied career with the writer Horatio Morpurgo. Admission free.
