FPTS – Beats (18)

Watch Online2019, UK, 101 mins – CERT 18

Based on the play by Kieran Hurley, screenplay by Kieran Hurley and Brian Welsh, directed by Brian Welsh.

In 1994, West Lothian, Scotland, two teenage boys risk everything to attend an illegal rave hoping for the best night of their otherwise boring lives. Sparky and spirited, this is a film about seizing the moment and partying like there’s no tomorrow. But it is also, about how having a best mate can make anything seem possible and expand every horizon. The title is inspired by the 1994 Criminal Justice Bill which references “music” includes sounds wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats.

“This tender, detail-filled movie lives for the moment.” New York Times

“Frequently funny and moving.”
