Boogie Woogie with Julian Phillips
Pianist/singer Julian Phillips presents an evening of boogie woogie and acoustic blues, accompanied by Brett Nevill on double bass and Axel Keim on dobro and guitar.
Julian taught himself how to play the piano at the age of fourteen by listening to and interpreting the music of the great boogie woogie pioneers including Jimmy Yancey and Pinetop Smith. His love and knowledge of the music is infectious and whether playing solo or performing with other musicians, his enjoyment of the music shines through.
Julian has played concerts and festivals in Europe and America and is highly esteemed by his fellow players. As a teacher, Julian has inspired many young people to follow his example (many of them playing at the UK Boogie Woogie Festival, founded by Julian himself in 2005 and held annually in Dorset), which is a real tribute to his talent and enthusiasm.
