An event to commemorate the 100th anniversary signing of the armastice November 1918. 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month 1918 – peace at last.
A time to reflect on the experience of this horrific war. But how to remember it? What are the sources of hope and light which promise a better and more peaceful world? Join a cast of readers and musicians who will present poetry, readings about the war and the coming of peace.
We will also draw on fascinating stories about Bridport in these momentous times. Songs and tunes from the war time will be mixed with contemporary songs from the likes of Steve Knightly, Billy Bragg and John Tams. A song ‘Light to the Darkness’ has been specially written for the show by David Powell. It echoes the show which aims to be both reflective and uplifting.
The show is a fundraiser for the Bridport Arts Centre and the Royal British Legion.
