Alban Berg’s operatic masterpiece, set in an apocalyptic pre-World War I environment.
At it’s World Premiere in 1925, Wozzeck was a scandal and a sensation. Over the years it has lost none of it’s vitality, or ability to shock, fascinate and engage audiences. It was one of the emblematic achievements of the thriving artistic forces in Germany and Austria during the brief period between world wars, and retains it’s status as one of the defining musical works of the 20th century.
