BACStage Youth Theatre Facilitator – Freelance Position

Bridport Arts Centre is looking for a dynamic and intuitive theatre facilitator to lead our youth theatre. This class has been a great opportunity for generations of creative young people to express themselves and there is a legacy of eccentric theatre making to uphold.

We are seeking an inspiring theatre practitioner looking to develop their facilitation and directing skills through connecting with an amazing group of young people. The ideal candidate will facilitate an environment which provides the students with the excitement and expectations of professional theatre making, while still allowing them to be teenagers.

Role & Responsibilities

The facilitator is responsible for delivering explorative and fun theatre classes which challenge the students to step outside their comfort zones, supporting them to experience and develop a range of performance skills including improv, movement, character development and script work. The classes culminate in a performance, usually at the end of each term, providing an opportunity for the young people to showcase their work to parents, peers and the wider community.

The ideal candidate will be adept at balancing support for students (a real range of characters, ages and abilities) as individuals with the creation of a cohesive ensemble. They are also responsible for group administration and coordination.

Education and training

Degree level or industry experience, ideally with a professional performance background and experience of facilitating groups of young people. Ideally, they will also have a performance practice of their own, allowing the youth theatre to benefit from industry experience and the energy of a current creative practice.
