Toussaint To Move | Windows of Displacement

We’re very sorry to let you know that Toussaint To Move | Windows of Displacement, due to take place at Bridport Arts Centre on Friday 25 September, has been cancelled because advance ticket sales have not reached the level needed to make the performance viable.

Cancelling a performance is never a decision we take lightly. We considered whether the event could still go ahead, but sales were not improving, and the remaining costs meant it was not financially sustainable.

Everyone who has booked will be contacted by the Box Office and offered a full refund. We know this will be disappointing. Advance booking makes a real difference to independent venues and visiting artists because it helps us (and them) judge whether an event can proceed.

If you are planning to attend another event, booking early is one of the most helpful ways to support live performance at BAC.

Windows of Displacement is a highly physical and fiercely moving dance solo from Yorkshire artist Akeim Touissant Buck. The piece draws on Akeim’s own history to reflect on universal ideas of migration, home, border and identity, integrating a richly expressive physicality with spoken word, tender folksong and visual image created in collaboration with cross-disciplinary artist Akeelah Betram.

Akeim Toussaint Buck is an award-winning interdisciplinary performer and maker, born in Jamaica and raised in England. He began making his own work upon graduation from The Northern School of Contemporary Dance, launching his own company Toussaint To Move in 2016 as a vehicle to create moving, thought provoking, accessible and free-spirited projects. The work aims to reflect on socio-political issues, with a humanitarian focus.

The aesthetic of Toussaint’s work combines dance and other art forms such as; creative writing, film, poetry, beat-box, singing and acting to tell stories capable of bringing a variety of audiences together. Akeim’s movement is informed by methodologies of KickBoxing, Yoga, Capoeira, Caribbean Dance,Hip Hop and Contemporary Dance.

Improvisation and acute listening are at the core of Toussaint’s practice of vocalisation and movement, called Beatmotion. The artist embraces the holistic potential of performance to translate the affective dimension of socio-political realities.
