Post Screening Q&A with Sir Christopher Hampton

Carrington, focuses on the relationship between the mercurial, bisexual artist Dora Carrington and the gay writer and acerbic wit Lytton Strachey,  one of the Bloomsbury group’s most interesting, intense and ultimately tragic love stories. Christopher Hampton wrote the screenplay, based on Michael Holroyd’s biography of Strachey, and also directed. The critic and writer David Thomson thought Emma Thompson’s performance one of  ‘her finest acting in film’ and Jonathan Pryce’s Strachey as ‘the best thing Pryce has ever done’. The music is by Michael Nyman and the strong cast also includes Steven Waddington (Ralph Partridge) Penelope Wilton (Lady Ottoline Morrell), Rufus Sewell (Mark Gertler) and Janet McTeer (Vanessa Bell).

Reviews

"This is Hampton’s impressive debut as a director; he tells his story with a tactful English reserve that allows deep feelings to find their own way to the surface"
