John Maloof, filmmaker, photographer and historian teams up with producer Charlie Siskel to uncover the mystery that was Vivien Maier.
Maier, a career nanny and inveterate wanderer, was a self-taught photographer with an uncanny ability to get close to people from all walks of life.
This intriguing documentary film switches between New York, France and Chicago as it traces her life story. Consistently taking photos over the course of five decades, Maier amassed a cache of 100,000 previously unknown photos, earning her a posthumous reputation as one of America’s most insightful and accomplished street photographers.
The families who employed her have mixed memories. Would she have even wanted this attention? The answer depends on how we interpret different bits of evidence. Regardless, it’s a wonder to behold the world through Maier’s eyes.

"Finding Vivian Maier is one of those fascinating documentaries that unearths an unknown artist and in a slow reveal creates a tantalising and ambiguous picture of the "missing" person".
"A fascinating story which continues to raise more questions than it answers".
