OffPiste Theatre are a Dorset-based production company exploring film, theatre and hybrids of the two in the aim of promoting underrepresented voices in the rural South West.
Since 2019, when the company was founded during the group’s second year of A-levels, their work has been funded by Arts Council England, reached thousands of people with their digital releases and has recently become an Associate Company to the National Youth Theatre where the idea for the company was initially born when Artistic Director, Archie Rowell took part in his NYT Intake Course.
Archie is running the 96 Mile Jurassic Coast in July in order to raise £10,000 for the suicide awareness charity, CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) – in under 36 hours. This screening of OffPiste’s filmography will be the premiere of the majority of their digital work due to them currently being on film festival runs- each ticket bought will go towards the fundraising goal.
The evening will include an introduction to the company and each project from Archie Rowell, and Elliot Millson who is OffPiste’s cinematographer, as well as an end of evening Q+A with the team and further creatives involved in the films.
Each ticket bought will go directly towards the £10,000 fundraising goal for CALM, as well as a small pot of money for the documentary that OffPiste are producing about the 6 months lead up to the 96 mile run (to cover travel expenses on the day etc).
The films:
‘Monologue Bank: what sadness feels like‘ – Our first Arts Council funded project during the height of COVID, giving an opportunity to 7 young people to write and perform a monologue about something they care about with a professional recording produced. This is the first of the collection, written and performed by Alfie Webb.
Our Mate, Max: mini documentary’  – Partially-funded by the Arts Council, ‘Our Mate, Max’ was a celebration and condemnation of the term, ‘masculinity‘. Embarking on a small tour, this is a mini behind the scenes documentary of our Sheffield performances.
‘ENCORE’ – Alex’s life has culminated with him feeling on the edge, standing at the pinnacle of the Jurassic Coast. Incredibly cut up, he’s about to do something stupid- then a strangely familiar man asks him about fishing. The short film that marked our transition from ‘theatre company’ to ‘production company’.
‘Hole in my Head‘ – A music video that OffPiste produced for the talented emerging artist, PHULMAYA.
‘text me when you get home’ – A digital theatre / short film hybrid monologue that follows Jen on her journey home from work. Shot in Dorchester Corn Exchange and Bristol.
‘RALPH’ – After a family bereavement, Ralph is left only pieces of his past that he held so dear.
