Signs Of Life + Q&A with Joseph and Elliott Millson
Silence speaks volumes in this award-winning first feature film shot by accomplished local cinematographer, Elliott Millson.
Actor, turned first time feature writer-director, Joseph Millson, teamed up with his nephew, Elliott, to create this enigmatic work, in which Anne (Sarah Jane Potts) holidays in Lanzarote alone, dressed in black and in silence. Her disposition is remote, inward, irritable, even. She seems in retreat from the world.
The film skilfully draws us in to meet Anne’s pain even as her story remains unrevealed. A chance meeting with Bill (David Ganly), a man in crisis, but who conversely can’t stop talking or keep still, takes her journey on an unexpected course. Will Anne find peace and rediscover her voice? The triumph of this brave, low-key film is that we genuinely care for both Anne and her unlikely holiday companion, Bill.
