Travel Night: The Conquest of the Blue Nile with Col. John Blashford-Snell CBE
Bridport Camera Club presents an evening with raconteur extraordinaire Colonel John Blashford Snell CBE.
The story of one of the most famous expeditions of the 20th century. Led by John Blashford-Snell, a team of serviceman and scientists made the first complete exploration and navigation of the infamous, rapid strewn Blue Nile in the mountains of Ethiopia. Supported by The Daily Telegraph and Survival Anglia TV, this voyage of discovery has been likened to a real life Raiders of the Lost Ark. It founded white water rafting… by accident.
Holder of almost all the top awards for exploration, Colonel John Blashford-Snell is one of the world’s most eminent and seasoned explorers. With the support of commerce, the British, US and other Armed Forces, he has organised and led over 100 expeditions to far corners of the world, including the Zaire River Expedition in 1973. The objectives of his challenging ventures have always included scientific exploration, wildlife conservation and aid to local communities. At the same time he has sought to develop leadership in young people through Operations Drake and Raleigh and assist the less privileged youth of urban areas. Broadcaster, public speaker and author of 16 books, John Blashford-Snell is regarded as an authority and as President of the Scientific Exploration Society, continues to explore today.
