Performed by BACstage youth theatre and directed by Niki McCretton, We could be Pirates is a new play written by one of the longest-serving members of BACstage; Rosie Mathewson. This is the first time this play will have been performed. The story follows Sasha, an autistic teenager, who discovers understanding and companionship in the most unlikely of places; on board a pirate ship!

Sasha and her family are moving to a quiet seaside town, hoping to start a new life. But before they’ve even had a chance to settle in, their new life is proving to be just as troublesome as their old one, and Sasha longs to escape. Perhaps the mystery surrounding the town’s children could be her way out of a life of boredom and bullying – even if not in the way Sasha expects.
