Celebrating Dance On Film

Bridport has a rich tradition of dance and film. This one day ‘BAC mini-festival’ celebrates both.

Celebrating Dance on Film Part 1

SAT 21 JAN,  2.30pm

Wim Wender’s passionate and exhilarating tribute to legendary dance choreographer, Pina Bausch plus the first part of an inspiring programme of short films from local dance companies, Bridport Youth Dance and Grace and Growl.

Celebrating Dance on Film Part 2

DANCER (12)

SAT 21 JAN, 7.30pm

The life and brilliant career of ballet dancer Sergei Polunin, from his early days in the Ukraine to principal at the Royal Ballet in London plus the second part of our inspiring programme of short films from Bridport Youth Dance and Grace and Growl.

Under the direction of Nikki Northover, Bridport Youth Dance has brought dance to hundreds of our young people. BYD has also worked with local upcoming film maker, Elliot Millson to create the series of Dance Weavers films that capture young dancers responding to the beautiful West Dorset landscape. Our afternoon event not only features the premiere of Dance Weavers IV but also provides a unique opportunity to immerse in the ‘box set’ of all four Dance Weavers films alongside feature film Pina, Wim Wender’s tribute to dance legend, Pina Bausch.
Directed by Anna Golding, Grace and Growl are a local contemporary dance company of mature adults who also embrace the medium of film. Our evening event features both their recent film, Echo, fresh from the 2022 Exeter Dance International Film Festival and earlier prize-winning film, Still / Sparkling – plus a second chance to see Dance Weavers IV and feature film Dancer, which salutes the life and brilliant career of ballet dancer Sergei Polunin.
