Andrew Hardwick: Wounded Land

Bridport Arts Centre is delighted to present Wounded Land, an exhibition of paintings by Bristol-based artist Andrew Hardwick.

Andrew Hardwick paints places that might be lost or go unnoticed, the unspectacular and ordinary, often wastelands that are about to be developed. These edgelands are filled with forgotten ruins, a multiplicity of soft and degraded materials, rotting timber and fence wire, as they wait to become a location for cargo, warehouses and car storage areas. The work challenges our complicated relationship with the land.

He uses a variety of found and recycled materials: board, timber, plastics, canvas, roofing materials, and varieties of paint, often decorator’s gloss.

Andrew Hardwick has a studio on a small holding near the Royal Portbury Docks, Bristol. He has a BA (Hons) Fine Art Degree from the University of the West of England and an MA (Fine Art) from the University of Wales, Cardiff. Widely exhibited around the UK and Ireland, he has had recent solo shows at the Atkinson Gallery, Millfield, Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery and The Plough Art Centre, Devon, as well as representation by Anima Mundi, St Ives, since 2011.
