Laura Eldret in conversation with Honor Beddard
Join artist Laura Eldret in conversation with curator Honor Beddard within the From and To exhibition.
Laura and Honor will discuss ideas of creative freedoms and the processes of collaboration and making that led to From and To, relating these to wider ideas of commons, social practice, place and textiles. Followed by a Q&A.
Laura was commissioned by Bridport Arts Centre in summer 2025 to respond to the idea of creativity and freedom, as part of the national project Our Freedom: Then and Now. From and To was imagined by Laura, but made possible through the generosity, time and collaboration of individuals and communities in Bridport and the surrounding areas, who informed her research, inspired the work, and contributed to the exhibition and events.
Laura is an artist and researcher making work for/about/with people, places, ecologies and communities. Her work has been exhibited widely, from England to Argentina, and she has been awarded commissions by major art institutions. She was recently (2024-25) artist-in-residence at West Dean Gardens and since 2023, she has been carrying out a PhD at the University of the West of England exploring ideas of commons/ing, the rural and ecologies. She is founding director of More Than Ponies, a visiting lecturer, a trained permaculturist and play worker.
Honor is an independent curator and a trustee at Bridport Arts Centre. She has a background in exhibitions, collections and commissioning art works. Most recently, she was an exhibitions curator at Wellcome Collection where she curated interdisciplinary exhibitions on topics relating to health and human experience. Over the course of her career, Honor has worked at a variety of institutions including the Freud Museum London, Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Council and the British Film Institute.
