Painting with West Bay – workshop led by Frances Hatch

Join artist Frances Hatch in West Bay, recording the sights, sounds and materials of the Jurassic coast

Join artist Frances Hatch in West Bay where we gather materials from the beach to make our own paint and identify tools to paint with. Participants will walk (slowly) to gather resources and identify a place to work. The precise location will be weather dependant, the weather may or may not make itself felt!

OUTLINE

LOCATION: The Bridport Arms Hotel, DT6 4EN
Optional: Arrive at 10am for a coffee beforehand with Frances OR Arrive just before 11am. Either way, please bring all your outdoor gear, so we can go straight out at 11am.

11am-2pm: A very short walk to a nearby spot identified by Frances as suitable on the day. (the weather decides for us). The group settles in one location, and everyone works in the same area to enable Frances to support everyone throughout.
The intended outcome: line and wash drawings made with cliff and beach foraged materials.
There is a pause to snack during the session and time to share experiences towards the end of our time.

FRANCES TO PROVIDE
Paper, board, medium, palette. No need to bring anything of your own beyond the basics below.

PARTICIPANTS TO BRING ALONG:

a) 3 small POTS: 1 filled with water, 2 empty to mix our ‘potions’.
b) KITCHEN TOWEL: a sheet or two
c) SPRAY small water squirter spray bottle.
d) WEATHER APPROPRIATE CLOTHES & FOOTWEAR.
e) FOLDING SEAT/MAT/CUSHION: sit on the ground/beach if you are able but bring a stool if needed. Be mindful of your own requirements. Work is most likely to be made on the beach.
f) SNACK & A DRINK
g) RUCK SACK to put all the above kit in so hands are free to carry boards etc.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING
Paint, brushes, paper, drawing boards, palettes
Nature (or Frances) will provide.
